Assembly Dinner

Roots and Branches

Attendees at the 2006 Regional Assembly in Indianapolis may remember Roots and Branches.  They opened the plenary session on Saturday morning with a program of roots, gospel and folk music.

Roots and BranchesRoots and Branches is led by Maynard Powell, pastor of Sixth Street Christian Church in Middletown, Ind.  It emerged out of a jam session that meets at the church on Sunday nights.  Using an eclectic array of instruments, including accordion and penny whistle, the band entertains with an assortment of folk and gospel tunes, stitched together with homespun humor.

Describing themselves as a jam band, Roots and Branches highlights the instrumental talents and diverse styles of the musicians.  Every song is an experiment as the performers each add their own seasoning to a song.

Roots and Branches will perform during the All Assembly barbecue buffet on Friday evening.
